SBAG F2000 XLAll American Rider Ameritex XL Futura 2000 Detatchable Slanted Saddlebags Review
First, after watching Ebay, using Amazon, and going to the actual dealers I came across the All American Rider / Ameritex Futura saddlebags. (I was torn between Vikingbags, Saddlemen and All American Rider)I loved the style right away. The method of opening was something new as most leather saddlebags open from the side. These bags open from the rear. The lids are velcro'd all the way around and the rear has a concho with a leather strap and steel buckle. Under the buckle is a plastic buckle which secures the bags closed. The lids are stitched on at the hinge but have a nylon strap to keep them from blowing open more than 180 degrees.
The bags are reinforced all the way around, bottom, sides and back. They are not quite "rigid" but, if I put some brackets and drilled through the bags they would hold up fine as bolt-ons! The lids are molded to form and seem to be able to hold the form of the bag.
The "actual" dimensions are: 16" L x 11" H x 5 1/2" W x 20 1/2" diagonal. The yoke is approx. 17-18" L.
4-Star reason: I am taking away a star because the bags were NOT detachable as stated. (I thought there was a descrepency after researching but purchased thinking they were detachable and AT A GOOD PRICE.) They do make these zip-off's but they are an additional $30-$40. Mine came sewn on, not what was displayed on the webpage.
* I called MotoSport where I ordered them from and the customer service was VERY GOOD and the rep said if I wanted to return just simply say so and he would send a pre-paid shipping sticker and give a FULL credit back to my account. (I told him I would wait a day and decide. He was fine with that.)
I ride a 2003 Suzuki Intruder VS800. A smaller cycle yet the bags fit perfectly, not too big or small. I set the bags in various spots but was worried I may have to reposition the rear turn signals. After finding a spot, tying them down (I have aftermarket saddle brackets) I concluded that opening/closing the bags do NOT interfere with the rear turn signals! Because the lids open from the rear but the hinge is stitched, not metal, I am able to open around the turn signals.
I decided to keep the bags as the look, size and quality appear to be worth the money.
I have had many cycles and have used OEM bags, Willie and Max, and Viking bags. I figured to try these All American Riders. So far, so good. The Vikings were a favorite but I think these will compare. And although the bolt-ons are great I am fine with a throw-over. I could always modify later on.
Finally - if purchasing these bags on Amazon you may want to contact the seller prior to purchase. There is very little information on any of the websites (even All American Rider site) and the Amazon sellers have a lot of strange dimensions that are inconsistent with the model numbers. So check carefully. (Dennis Kirk has the most pictures. Match the model number with the Dennis Kirk pictures.). But, overall, I am satisfied with the saddlebags and the seller, MotoSports.
