ARB 968CS IPF Auxiliary Lighting Kit Review

Upon opening the box, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this lighting kit. The wiring harness is well-made with plenty of wire length, a nice illuminated switch, a fuse, and a power relay. I normally end up making my own wiring harness to install powered accessories, but this time I used the wiring harness as-is. The relay is very small, which makes it easy to find a place to mount it. I put mine on the side of my radiator fan shroud.

The kit comes with both 55 Watt and 100 Watt bulbs. I used the 100 Watt bulbs from the get-go, so I don't know how these perform with the 55 Watt bulbs.

The lights have a plastic rear housing, and glass lenses. Plastic lenses tend to cloud and yellow over time, but these glass lenses wont. I like the plastic rear housing; it's lightweight and looks good. It doesn't seem to have a negative affect on cooling; I haven't seen any warping or smelled anything funny.

I mounted these lights on a custom light bar. The large studs make them easy to mount sturdily. The vertical adjustment hinge can be tightened up so it doesn't shift under normal use, but if a person bumps into the lights you'll need to re-aim them vertically. This could be annoying if you have a habit of bumping into them while parked, but otherwise it's probably a good thing so the mounts (or lights) don't break if you hit them hard.

I use these lights when driving on dirt back-country roads. They throw a lot of light up ahead, but due to the dual-pattern reflector, they also have a decent amount of localized spread to the sides. It's effectively a driving beam and a fog beam in one housing. The spread make it easier to see the way around obstacles, and also lights up animals on the sides of the trail.

The kit comes with white plastic covers with the IPF logo on them. These protect the lights from damage and make them legal for travel on normal roads.
